British actor Henry Cavill is the new Superman in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”.

Good news for all British patriots and comics-lovers! Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures announced Sunday that 27-year-old British actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Superman: “Man of Steel”.

Cavill is best known for his role in Showtime’s “The Tudors,” but he also played supporting roles in “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “Stardust”.

According to Snyder, Cavill’s screen test rose to the top of the consideration pile over Matthew Goode (who worked with Snyder on Watchmen as Ozymandias), Matthew Bomer (”Chuck”), Armie Hammer (the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network), Joe Mangiello (the “True Blood” actor we reported on recently), and a lead in this weekend’s The Rite, Colin O’Donaghue.
